Microsoft’s xCloud game streaming is now widely available on iOS and PC - The Verge

ios.indah.link

Microsoft’s xCloud, the cloud game streaming component of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate that doesn’t require a console to use, is rolling out fully to iOS devices, including iPhones and iPads, as well as PCs and macOS computers via the web. It’s been in an invite-only beta period since mid-April 2021, but Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can now access games right from their devices.

Microsoft says that on PCs, xCloud can be accessed through the Edge browser and Google Chrome. We’ve gotten it to work within macOS on Microsoft Edge and Safari. More than 100 games are available, and the service is compatible with Bluetooth controllers or ones connected via USB. On iOS, it’ll work as a web-based app via Safari, and you’ll have a choice between a controller or touch controls for certain games. Microsoft also shared in its blog post that xCloud is now powered by Xbox Series X consoles, setting the streaming at 1080p at up to 60 frames per second with a fast enough internet connection.

The road to getting xCloud on iOS was a bumpy one, with Apple’s App Store guidelines initially blocking not just Microsoft but also Google’s Stadia and Nvidia’s GeForce Now cloud streaming services from launching on the App Store. Apple eventually carved out some loopholes to allow them to operate via the web (but not without caveats).

To celebrate the launch, Microsoft put its “Designed for Xbox” badge on one of the best mobile gaming accessories around: Backbone’s One controller. This new version is physically identical to the preexisting model that has been available since late 2020 because it’s technically the same. What’s changed is the physical packaging that now calls out its Xbox compatibility, and despite no increase in price ($99.99), it comes with a complimentary three-month trial to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for new members, which usually costs $45 on its own. It’s available through the Microsoft Store and Backbone’s website. Razer’s revised version of the Kishi controller for iPhone has monochrome buttons and also includes a Game Pass Ultimate trial for new users. You can read my colleague Sam Byford’s review of that one here.

Backbone One’s refined interface for xCloud support.

Backbone has recently updated its app with some deep Xbox integration, like tagging gameplay that you’ve recorded through xCloud. You can edit footage within the app and upload it as a link. It also features a new dynamic Xbox Game Pass feed to tell you about new games to try out and other suggestions based on your friends’ activities.

Don't update the iOS Snapchat app until it's fixed - AppleInsider

ios.indah.link

Snapchat is warning iPhone users that the version of the messaging app available in the App Store has a problem, and is something the company is trying to solve.

Snapchat last updated its iOS app in the App Store on June 28, with the version 11.34.0.35 update adding a number of "bug fixes" to the messaging tool. However, the maintenance release has gone wrong for some users.

A number of Snapchat users claim the app automatically crashes to the iPhone Home Screen whenever it is opened. It is unclear what is triggering the crash, but it occurs just after the camera feed becomes visible.

Snapchat's support teams posted to Twitter on Monday that it is "aware of the issue," warning users to "Hang tight, we are looking into it and working on a fix!"

While it is unknown exactly when the patch will be available in the App Store, given it has to pass through the App Store review process to do so, it is likely that the major app may be fast-tracked through the review itself. If so, the updated version could arrive fairly soon.

iOS 14.7: When will your iPhone get the next upgrade, and what changes are coming? - CNET

ios.indah.link

iOS 14.7 will give the iPhone a few cool new features.

James Martin/CNET

Apple's iOS 14.6 update arrived in late May with new features, including another way to locate lost AirTags trackers and high-fidelity Apple Music support. But we're already looking ahead to iOS 14.7, which is currently available as a public beta.

iOS 14.7 appears to be another small update, which is not a surprise. The big update arrived with iOS 14.5 in April, which includes the ability to unlock your iPhone with Face ID while wearing a maskstop apps from tracking you for advertising purposes and choose from four Siri voices

Here's what we know about iOS 14.7 so far. Plus, check out everything to know about Apple's upcoming iOS 15 update

iOS 14.7 is now available as a developer beta.

Patrick Holland/CNET

When will iOS 14.7 be available for download?

iOS 14.7 is currently available as a public beta. But be careful: Betas are often buggy and should only be downloaded on a tester device, not your primary phone. We recommend waiting until the final release before downloading. We expect to see a general release in late June or early July.

How can I download iOS 14.7 once it's generally available?

Once Apple releases iOS 14.7 to the public, you should get a prompt telling you that iOS 14.7 is now available and asking if you'd like to download it. Or you can do the following:

1. Open the Settings app.

2. Select General.

3. Tap Software Update

Your device will connect to Apple's servers and prompt you to download and install the update. Follow the prompts to complete the installation. When your device reboots, it will be running iOS 14.7. (Check out our full instructions on preparing your phone and downloading iOS 14 here.)

What devices will iOS 14.7 work on?

iOS 14.7 will be compatible with all the same devices as iOS 14. Generally, these include the iPhone 6S all the way up through the iPhone 12, along with the iPhone SE and the seventh-gen iPod Touch. For the full list of devices compatible with iOS 14, click here

You'll be able to download iOS 14.7 on the iPhone 6S through the iPhone 12, pictured here.

Sarah Tew/CNET

What new features will iOS 14.7 include?

The latest operating software update appears to be smaller, and focused on under-the-hood changes. Here's what we've seen in the beta version of the software so far.

Set timers on your HomePod using the Home app

While you've been able to set timers on HomePod for a while, you previously needed to do this using Siri. In iOS 14.7, you can set a timer for your HomePod through the Home app without having to ask Siri, as 9to5Mac found in the developer beta code. The new option is located below HomePod alarms.

Weather app air quality feature expanding to more countries

iOS 14 added the ability to see air quality measures in the Weather app, but only in a few regions. In the iOS 14.7 developer beta, this feature appears to be expanded to more countries, 9to5Mac spotted

Battery drain bug fix

Several people have reported an issue with their iPhone battery draining quickly since updating to iOS 14.6. Apple has yet to address the issue, but it seems possible it could be fixed in iOS 14.7.

For more, check out some of the best hidden iPhone features we've found in iOS 14. And before you make any OS updates, make sure your iPhone and iPad are ready to do so

This week’s top stories: iPhone 14 rumors, iOS 15 beta 2 changes and features, more - 9to5Mac

ios.indah.link

In this week’s top stories: New rumors on the iPhone lineups coming this fall and next fall, iOS 15 beta 2 changes and features, Apple’s antitrust worries, and more. Read on for all of this week’s top stories and more.

iPhone 14

Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo published a new investor note this week where he doubled down on his expectations for an all-new flagship iPhone lineup in the second half of 2022. The analyst says Apple will launch two low-end 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch flagships alongside two high-end 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch flagships.

For more details on Kuo’s expectations for the iPhone 14 release, check out our full coverage right here.

Tim Cook on antitrust

Apple CEO Tim Cook has personally reached out to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other members of Congress to voice concern about looming antitrust legislation, according to new reports and comments from Pelosi.  Pelosi told Cook: “If you have a substantive concern, put it forth as Congress works its well.”

Lawmakers introduced five bills targeting Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google last week. Among other things, the legislation would significantly affect the App Store and impact Apple’s ability to pre-install applications on iPhones. The goal, according to Democratic Representative David Cicilline, would be to ensure that companies like Apple are “not using their market dominance to favor their own products and services.”

iOS 15 beta 2

On Thursday, Apple released iOS 15 beta 2 to developers alongside watchOS 8 beta 2, iPadOS 15 beta 2, and tvOS 15 beta 2. The update includes a handful of changes and new features, including a new Apple Maps icon, SharePlay, tweaks to the Safari design, Shortcuts improvements, and more.

BGMI for iOS: Launch Date Rumors and Updates - TheTealMango

ios.indah.link

Krafton launched Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) for Android users on 17th June 2021 via the Early Access Program. However, BGMI was only made available on the Google Play Store and not on the Apple App Store. Now, certain sources have revealed the BGMI iOS launch date but the official announcement is yet to come.

Ever since the Govt. of India banned PUBG Mobile in mid-2020 due to the Indo-China stress over the border, the passionate players have been eagerly waiting for the game to come back.

Android users can now play BGMI by installing it from the Play Store. However, iOS users cannot do the same.

If you are an iPhone or iPad user looking for the BGMI launch date, pre-registration, or availability, then you will have to wait for a couple of weeks.

Krafton has provided no official update on the launch of BGMI for iOS (iPhone/iPad) users. According to Sportskeeda, “Battlegrounds Mobile India iOS release dates on the internet are fake as the launch date is yet to be officially revealed.”

What did the PUBG Mobile/BGMI Players say about the BGMI iOS Release Date?

The popular PUBG Mobile (BGMI) content creators have hinted the same. Abhijeet “Ghatak” Andhare said that the players have already waited so much, and can wait for a few more days. The game will come sooner than expected” via his Instagram story.

In another story, he also mentioned that “Krafton is working on some fixes reported by the content creators. This is delaying the launch of the game but it will surely come soon.”

Tanmay “Scout” Singh shared a possible reason for the delay stating that “Issues regarding the game are going through a fix right now. Mainly, the developers are working on the feature that allows you to play against players from foreign countries while you’re still playing BGMI. Otherwise, the Esports scenario in India will be dead soon

Naman “Mortal” Mathur and Animesh “Thug” Agarwal also hinted that the BGMI iOS version might be coming in early to mid-July. It will directly be available on the App Store, and there will be no “Pre-registrations.”

What do we know about the BGMI iOS Launch Date so far?

From Krafton’s social media posts, content creator’s statements, and certain reliable sources, we have concluded the following about the BGMI iOS launch date:

  • BGMI will be available for iOS users in early to mid-July, likely before the 20th of July.
  • It will be directly available on the Apple App Store, and there will be no need for pre-registration.
  • No early-access version will be launched for iOS users.
  • The BGMI final version for Android might be launched together with the iOS version.
  • Krafton is currently working on fixing bugs, glitches, and improvising the in-game experience for BGMI players. This is delaying the full launch of the game.

There are many unofficial dates and statements available on the internet about the launch of BGMI for iOS users. However, none of them come from a credible source. So, we can’t trust them yet. One thing is for sure that the BGMI iOS version is definitely coming.

iOS 15 will let users easily update to a beta release when restoring a device from backup - 9to5Mac

ios.indah.link

iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 come with multiple new features, including SharePlay, a new Weather app, redesigned Safari, and more. Another new feature that has not been mentioned before is the ability to easily update iOS to a beta release when restoring a device from a backup.

Right now, if you backup your device running a beta version of iOS and then try to restore that backup to another device running an older version of iOS, it simply won’t work. The system will tell you that you can’t use backups of newer iOS versions, and that you first need to update your iPhone or iPad.

Users had to either continue the setup process without restoring data and leave it like this or else install the beta version of iOS manually and then restore the backup. This will no longer be necessary in iOS 15 thanks to a new system implemented by Apple.

As found by 9to5Mac in the iOS 15 beta code, the system will now detect if the backup chosen by the user is from a beta version of iOS. In this case, the user can choose to update iOS to the beta release right in the setup process, which will make it easier to restore all data from a backup made in a newer version of iOS.

Continue taking part in shaping Apple software by test-driving pre-release versions of iOS on this iPhone. Your other iPhone is in the beta program, so if you choose not to continue, it could affect the data that is being transferred to this iPhone.

We weren’t able to test this feature since it has only been implemented with iOS 15, but it should help people running beta on their old devices when they buy a new one — especially those who are part of the Apple Beta Software Program.

iOS 15 is currently available exclusively for developers, while a public beta will be released in July. The official release is expected this fall.

This week saw an interesting mix of news and rumors, led by a new report from Ming-Chi Kuo outlining some of his expectations for the 2022 iPhone models.

Top Stories 64 Feature
We also saw the second betas of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, a claim that Apple has already stopped production of the iPhone 12 mini amid slow sales, and a report that Apple is clamping down on some prominent leakers, so read on for details on all of these stories and more!

iPhone 14 May Feature Under-Screen Touch ID

Apple may include an under-screen version of Touch ID on some "iPhone 14" models in 2022, according to credible Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, providing users with an alternative to Face ID.

In a wide-ranging research note this week, Kuo added that a new iPhone SE will be released in the first half of 2022 with 5G support and other new features, while remaining a budget-friendly device. Kuo also expects a 48-megapixel camera on some high-end iPhones next year.

As for this year, iPhone 13 dummy models surfaced this week, offering a closer look at rumored design changes.

Apple Developing a Whole New Kind of MacBook Air

Apple is working on a completely new, high-end version of the MacBook Air for release as early as later this year, according to recent reports.

The new MacBook Air would likely feature a faster iteration of Apple's custom M1 chip for ultra-fast performance in a lightweight design. The current base model MacBook Air with the M1 chip already outperforms a maxed-out Intel-based 16-inch MacBook Pro in benchmarks.

Apple Seeds Second Betas of iOS and iPadOS 15 to Developers

Two and a half weeks after releasing the first betas of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 following the WWDC keynote, Apple this week seeded the second beta versions to developers. Parallel beta updates for watchOS 8 and tvOS 15 were also released, but we've yet to see a second beta of macOS Monterey.

The second betas of iOS and iPadOS 15 fix a number of bugs, and also introduce a few new features that weren't in the first betas, including initial support for SharePlay functionality in FaceTime and the ability for apps to request access to additional RAM to improve performance.

Check out our tidbits article for more on the changes in the second beta releases, and if you're not a registered Apple developer but you want to try out the upcoming operating system versions ahead of their official launch in the fall, Apple should be releasing the initial public beta versions shortly.

Apple Warns Leakers to Stop Leaking Information

A credible Apple leaker known as "Kang" and a number of other leakers reportedly received warning letters from lawyers representing Apple this week.

"Kang" has been one of the most reliable Apple leakers over the last few years, with several detailed leaks about Apple's future product and software plans that turned out to be correct, and Apple's letter essentially suggests that continued leaks of this nature may result in legal action.
